This might be an uncomfortable subject for you as a writer, but promoting your work in today's digital age means promoting yourself. More than in previous generations, writers are expected to engage with followers. Gone are the times when writers wrote and publishers sold. To create a loyal reader base, you need to be able and willing to sell yourself, your brand, your message.

I found out after publishing my first book, that the real work begins after you publish. Unless you are already a best-selling author, you need to be your own chief publicist, promoter, sales agent, etc...

Fortunately in today's world of social media, there are paths to creating a base of followers that didn't exist just a few short years ago. If everyone individually invests some time into creating an audience, then hopefully, as a group, we can share those audiences so that we can magnify our voice through multiplication rather than addition.
